Well, the answer kinda depends on how one defines middleware. If you consider middleware as a variety of services used by distributed application programmers to integrate the pieces of their programs, then Tarantella operates in a little different space.

I'm not terribly familiar with Tarentella. However, I kinda think of it more as a very robust piece of terminal emulation software that is used to connect up terminal devices to distributed operating systems. If true, then Tarantella might be considered more of as communications software that can be used to access a variety of backend operating envirments that in turn host applications.

Thanks for the info on Vertex Industries. I seem to remember that they bought Netweave a few years back. Netweave's core product was a piece of message oriented middleware that provides the type of core technology essential for EAI. I need to look at their web site but failed to connect based on the URL contained in your message.
