Thanks George,

I would agree with you that the AIX rumour is just that. Everything I have seen and heard is that AIX is a key OS for IBM and there is no indication what so ever that it will phased out any time soon (if at all).

The only OS that IBM likely wants to see phased out I would think is OS/2 but who knows what IBM big wigs have in store for it. Last I understood was that they would like it to become a pure JVM OS. Maybe that is the base that IBM and SUN plan on using for their new JVM OS.

Thanks for your insight on the S/390 and the PowerPC chip. I wasnt sure what their development was for this area. I know that the OS/390 is a very new OS and is just starting to gain acceptance. I think that OS/390 will see batter growth in the next 2-4 years. But there is just sooo much MVS/VM systems out there that will still be around for another 10 years at least. I would bet a lot of MSFT fans would not believe that prediction - LOL!!! But I would bet my next paycheck on that.

As for the PowerPC and the automotive industry - I did mention that as one of IBM's revenue sources. In fact the chips are used in more than just Fords if I am not mistaken.

Thanks George (fellow IBMer)
