Actually, I am not reading much of anything into today's announcements, other than perhaps a desire on the part of THQI's management to make sure they can handle the growth the co. is experiencing. With regard to Lapin (who, I think, joined the board in 95, shortly after Farrell took over as CEO) I have heard CEOs of even much larger companies complain that M & A activities, from either end, can be very distracting to senior management. In light of this, I can see how both the officers and the board might feel more comfortable placing lead responsibility for this sort of thing with one individual who is not involved in day-to-day operations.
I'm not saying an acquisition or buyout is unlikely, mind you, just that I am not sure today's release forecasts either. BWDIK.
