Jini is Sun's new technology, like Java developed by Bill Joy's team in Aspen, for interconnecting appliances as Java objects, thus obviating special drivers for each item in a host computer. It has been accepted with surprising enthusiasm in the white goods business, among printer manufacturers and cellphone producers. It allows your car audio system, for example, to recognize your cellphone without alot of programming--the hip bone to be connected to the thigh bone, so to speak, without alot of cerebral mediation. It is an amazingly simple and useful application of Java objects which is already making money for Sun.
