Nucleus Named 1998 Database Engine of the YearSand Technology Joins
IBM, NCR, SAS and Business Objects in IndustryAwards

MONTREAL--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1998--SAND SNDCF Sand Technology
Systems International Inc. SNDCF announced today that Nucleus has been named
by DM Review Magazine as the 1998 World Class Solution, Database Engine of the
Year for data warehousing and data mart. In determining the winners in each
category, hardware and software companies submitted case studies to DM Review
for consideration in one of six categories. A panel of judges ranked the submissions
according to the guidelines developed by DM Review's editorial staff. The judges
reviewed the submissions and interviewed contacts from the data warehouse sites
for final selection. This year's categories reflect the most mission-critical segments
of the market as determined by feedback from DM Review readers. Winners will also
be featured in the January 1999 issue of DM Review. The category winners were:
