Quarter '97.."

Interesting - despite "lowered" analysts expectations, more companies surprised on the negative side than the year ago quarter. I would have guessed that the opposite would have happened.

If analysts keep lowering expectations, perhaps 4th qtr '98 EPS surprises will be more on the positive side.
