donald: I checked with my broker pertaining to U.S.CLEARING and he confirmed that they will be increasing the margin requirements on internet stocks, but U.S.CLEARING has not yet released the exact week nor have they established the effective date. Also heard on CNBC that SOLOMON,SMITH BARNEY and DONALDSON,something,JENRETTE are also planning to limit margin on internet stocks.

Free Markets...heh!

Well, "they" just don't understand the dynamics of the "new era" investor. Once the Inets fall out of favor, a new group will take the spotlight and manic investing will be attracted to that group.

I do not think even eliminating margin completely will change the "new era" investor mania. Now that individual investors have computers, the Internet and all that it now brings to investing, manic investing is here to stay. The only thing that can change this “new era” manic investing, will be for the SEC or IRS to do something that craps on day trading in general by changing IRS tax laws for day trades or the SEC requiring qualifications for day trading.

Regards,
LG
