Tandy Corp. shrs fall on PC sales rumor

NEW YORK, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Tandy Corp. shares fell more than $5 a share after the electronics retailer was rumored to have
weak personal computer sales in November.

Donald Trott, analyst at Brown Brothers Harriman, said the stock is being hurt by rumors of weak computer sales at Tandy's Radio Shack stores during the month.
Tandy is expected to report November sales on Thursday.

Shares of Tandy, the parent of Radio Shack, fell 5-3/8 to 39-11/16 on more than 2 million shares of volume.

The fall in Radio Shack's stock, however, is an ''overreaction,'' said George Sutton at Dain Rauscher Wessels.

Sutton said computer sales are only 10 percent of Radio Shack's revenues and the company's personal communications services and toy segments seem to fine.

''We don't have any indications that those portions of the business are weak,'' Sutton said. He added that personal computers carry low profit margins so there
would not be much of an effect on Tandy's bottom line.

Sutton said Tandy's sales seem to be meeting expectations and he has not changed his outlook for the fourth quarter. Sutton rates the stock as a ''buy.''
