I am going to make this short but sweet: It behooves all of us to understand that it is better to be a little old-fashioned, but honest and loyal, than enlightened and modern, but diabolic and macabre. Let me begin by citing a range of examples from the public sphere. For starters, Fred G.'s only motivation is a grungy attachment to wealth and power. It should be clear by this point that his goal is not to oppose callow jingoism but to reinvigorate it with a crafty new purpose. What I had wanted for this post was to write an analysis of Fred G.'s excuses. Not a exhortation or a shrill denunciation, but an analysis. I hope I have succeeded at that.
