BrainTech Inc. Begins Customer Testing of Odysee
Development Studio

VANCOUVER, B.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1998--BrainTech Inc. has identified a number of clients to begin the first phase of beta testing for the Odysee Development Studio.

This test phase is under way and will be completed in the first quarter of 1999. ''The Odysee Development Studio is an affordable vision solution development tool that has captured a lot of attention from prospective customers,'' said Peter MacLean, executive vice president, operations for BrainTech. ''We've been approached by several Fortune 500 companies who fit our feasibility profile and are prepared to integrate this product to their existing vision systems. This pilot program will build a very solid foundation by which we can take this product to market.''

The Odysee Development Studio is an open object-oriented approach to vision systems that allows for the rapid design, testing and construction of machine vision applications and sensor independent recognition solutions. It uses a functional model of vision systems and divides the system into components. An advantage of an object-oriented approach is that sub-components can be reused. The Studio provides a canvas for the rapid construction and testing of solutions within a drag-and-drop environment.

Vision systems developed under the Odysee Development Studio allow for seamless upgrades that utilize the Odysee-IMPAC board that is being jointly developed by BrainTech and UTMC Microelectronic Systems Inc. (UTMC). BrainTech recently signed an agreement with UTMC, a wholly owned subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation [NYSE:UTX - news], to develop, manufacture and market a visual recognition accelerator board. The IMPAC board utilizes UTMC's UTCAM-Engine. The plug-in PCI interface board provides a dedicated PowerPC processor to accelerate the vision application by freeing the main CPU(s) from computationally intensive calculations.

Earlier this year, BrainTech announced an agreement with UTMC to jointly develop, manufacture and market a visual recognition accelerator board to be used in the multi-billion dollar vision systems industry. Machine vision systems are used for manufacturing quality inspection, security and surveillance, military target identification, and other applications.

BrainTech specializes in the design, development and commercialization of advanced pattern recognition technologies and
products. Founded in 1994, the company builds highly effective, adaptive pattern matching recognition systems based on its
patented technologies. BrainTech shares trade on the OTC Bulletin Board under the symbol BNTI. For more information, visit
