GM Says November Sales Sank,
Dealing a Surprise to Analysts

<<General Motors Corp. surprised industry observers on Tuesday, disclosing that its vehicle sales in November, a month that analysts have predicted would show gains for the auto industry.

A company official, commenting ahead of the company's planned release of official figures on Thursday, said GM's November sales showed a percentage decline "in the mid-single digits." The auto maker had been expected to post a sales gain of 2% to 4% for the month.

Elsewhere, Chrysler Corp., now a unit of DaimlerChrysler AG, reported a rise of 6.7% in the month. Ford Motor Co., the last of the so-called Big Three U.S. auto makers is expected to report flat to slightly higher sales for the month, when it releases data on Thursday>>
