RH, Barring a new set of cumbersome regs., the news reporting agencies should do a much better job by asking the usual suspects, "Incidentally, is your firm short gold?" The present system is carte blanche without qualified reporting. Many newspapers and news agencies are stock corporations, therefore, they often lack objectivity unless held accountable by recipients (subscribers, reputable brokerage firms, pubic access venues, peer news groups, etc.).
