Ish - The southwest border of Fairfax County is about 100 miles from Charlottesville, down Route 29, a four lane highway which pretty much runs through a broad, flat valley. The drive is through some awfully pretty country, good farm country. If you remember your geology the East coast mountains are small, and smooth. You can see, off in the horizon, the Blue Ridge mountains and the Green mountains (think I have that right, I thought they were all Blue Ridge, but my roadmap said different.) An hour and a half drive.

Charlottesville is hilly, and the houses are smallish, at least the ones I saw, it's more typical of Virginia towns. Fairfax is much flatter, more urban, more suburban, much wealthier.
