Jim, what is you investment time frame?

I look at IBM and ask myself "where would be a better place for the money?"

CSCO. Dell. Compaq. Oracle. MSFT. 3com. These are some of the for-real internet companies. IBM looks like a real solid investment, even against CSCO- which has always been too expensive for me to buy, which makes me look dumb in retrospect.

Speaking of dumb (in retrospect) I bought Amazon on the IPO for $20 and sold at $55 (this is all pre-split, mind you) as the company seemed too expensive, and I would consider rebuying on a dip. Woops.

How do you value IBM's patent portfolio, especially in networking communications?

My problem is I do not have any ideas that I feel are better investments than IBM at this point, for this portion of my portfolio. Although I am starting to look in to the oil drilling stocks!
