jfred, I had gone, but got tempted back here for a minute because Johny has become a determinist, albeit unknowingly. He claims that non-selfish altruism is not part of people's brain function. Now that seems to mean that they don't have a choice to self destruct on behalf of somebody else. He seems even to be more deterministic than I am. His range of creativity is so limited that it seems to be restricted to a railway track of Randian ideology and doesn't understand that it is all based on a belief system: A is A.

You say you have very limited choice - you can't even choose to love Johny in a romantic sense. So your free will is so circumscribed that I question how much of it you really have.

Determinists one and all by the look of it. With Johny ascribing mathematical calculations to all living things, which is an idea that appeals to me - not that they do maths in the examination sense, but they have an inbuilt wiring system which automatically calculates proababilities and such like so their genes will propagate.

This whole free will concept seems pretty limited to me. Found only in very minimal quantities but without good examples to back it up. In fact it all seems a lot of rot. Some wishful thinking that the unknown world of subatomics will come up with some magic and the few people running around on this obscure little planet manifest some non-causal relationships too. It leaves 99.9999999999999999 % of existence operating in the billiard ball mode.

Johny has circled around into his own failed argument. Welcome to the determined world you predictable fella Johny.
