Itronics Names Michael R. Mapa Manager, Mining Technical Services
RENO, Nev.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 2, 1998--Itronics Inc. (OTC BB:ITRO) announced today the appointment of Michael R. Mapa as Manager, Mining Technical Services, of its wholly owned subsidiary, Whitney & Whitney, Inc.
''Mining technical services has historically been a profit center for Itronics,'' said Dr. John Whitney, Itronics president and CEO.
''I believe we can expand this subsidiary by using it to form joint ventures with silver and gold mining companies to apply our proprietary silver/gold recovery technology. The technology we are developing has the potential to replace cyanide as a gold/silver recovery method at some mines. In November Montana voters, in a ballot initiative, approved a ban on new cyanide heap leach mining.''
Mapa replaces Bob Gordon, vice president, Mining Services, who is retiring. Mapa has more than 25 years of technical and management experience evaluating and developing mineral resources, including six years supervising geotechnical drilling operations at the proposed Federal nuclear waste storage site in southern Nevada.
Mapa has served as Senior Geologist for the Exxon Minerals Company, Exploration Manager for GEXA Gold Corp., and Supervisor for Science Applications International Corp. in Las Vegas. He received a B.S. Degree in Geological Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno, and is a member of the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers and the Geological Society of Nevada.
''We are pleased that Mr. Mapa will be managing our mining technical services operation,'' said Whitney. ''We are confident there is an ongoing need for the kind of specialized services that we can provide to the mining industry.''
