Lawrence Kam,

You Wrote
>This is fatalistic bullshit and it is wrong. Read any book by Julian Simon, heck, even read some IMF reports on the global economy. Take some valium. FACT: World GDP is growing. FACT: World hunger is at the lowest percentage it has ever been, and continues to trend down. Production is plentiful. Distribution remains problematic because there are still a few tinpot dictators left in this world. FACT: Industrialization raises the standard of living. FACT: Capitalism is good. I would say, have some faith, but heck you don't even need faith. Just look at the data rather than spew dogmatic nonsense, promoted by flimsy evidence and even flimsier people.<

Data depends on where you get it from and how you want to look at it....
Each organization askews data to qualify its' own interests...IMF is no
different...is there any purely objective informational data available
on the scale we are looking at....NO SUCH LUCK

All of what you say here under FACT...is correct, But it is not a complete
view of the data and I would say it is quite narrow. What I said about
80% of the worlds population is TRUE and might be off by 5%.
I wish that I could verify the figure....with hard data from the non
as well as industrial nations poorist people.....

Here is a rebuttle to your position that the worlds Economic Conditions
are just "HUNKIE DORIE"
monde-diplomatique.fr
If you bother to read it....look at the source file at the end, the data
used in this article comes from other sources then the IMF.

Amartya Sen was a professor for years at Harvard...but I guess you missed
his classes or avoided them. Without being overly kind...I suggest that
a narrow blind alley perspective is less valuable then a full spectrum
education.

Fatalism: "a doctrine that events are fixed in advance so that human
beings are powerless to change them...."
I believe you may have mixed-up your description terms....and do not
understand this words meaning. Also 'bullshit' is a valuable compost material
that is used for improving lives not for indoctrinating them.

I do not use Valium

I do have a tendency towards being Dogmatic...hopefully in its' more
positive form..? But it is very difficult to present all the data and
facts here on SI.....especially to refute anothers partially incorrect
position.
My Best
Chip

EDIT...Thank You for the information on the WSJ internet edition,
I will check it out and keep my paper.
