Absolutism on abortion: Not that I would take a post from JLA seriously or anything, but on this issue it's pretty clear what was meant. Ish's concern with the 1.4 million abortion figure seems to be a indication that he would like an outright ban on abortion, even though 90% of those abortions are in the first trimester. Perhaps you agree with him JLA, perhaps not. Ish is welcome to argue that position, as is the Republican party. Good luck, I don't think there's much mileage to be had there, but it's all politics. Write your representatives. My understanding is that turning back the clock on abortion is a central goal of the moral reformation wing of the Republican party, they may carry the issue forward however they see fit. If you wish, you may discuss this with the master of substantive debate here, the inimitable mrknowitall. I wouldn't want to engage in fear mongering or anything.
Nor do I believe you are accurately representing the position of the pro-life side of the issue. You are conveniently using the position of the furthest fringe in an attempt to stereotype the majority of those who are far from the fringe.
What is your motive in doing that? Fear mongering, perhaps? (http://www2.techstocks.com/~wsapi/investor/reply-6125780)
K denied being an absolutist in that post, though elsewhere he he stated abortion is a "heinous evil". It's not a big issue to me, but always a good hot button to push. I'm sure someone will be happy to tell me what my position is, as usual. |
