Tom,

This is the only no monthly fee plan I have heard of. That's 1/2 of why I bought it. The other 1/2 is I know lots of people at QCOM, I'm a digital communications engineer who has been working on spread spectrum systems for years, and I wanted to see how well CDMA works. Still I think Sprint may run into a problem. The phones are really popular in San Diego (the only city they are running this promotion in). About 3/4 of people I've heard buying into this deal want emergency phones either for themselves or a family member. I do know a few people who are planning to trade in their analog phones because they don't use them that much and they can also replace their pagers at the same time. One of the managers where I'm consulting says he and his wife have to pay a minimum of $60/month for two cell phones and two pagers. So he is going to take advantage of this deal. Still, I figure the worst thing I could do to Sprint is use my phone say 5 mins. per month. What would it cost Sprint to send me a bill for $1.75 a month?

Rick
