Hmmm Dipy I think the country is still leaning right, as in, less government. The problem is the republicans got lost in their message and let a fringe element define their goals for them. The masses were willing to put up with that for a while, example the prayer in school issue... republicans spent too much time on that, but the RR wanted it - ok no big deal really. But then, this out of control Starr investigation and a number of key republicans coming from the RR and proclaiming their stance on abortion etc. and that was it. If they can regroup and moderate their social views which they have done in the past then they will regain control I feel - which btw would be ok with me, I dont mind the Bushes at all.

At least in Ca the republicans need to decide whether they want to 1) make a moral stand on their core beliefs or 2) win elections. So far they are doing the former quite well. They cant do both.
