I am long AOL, am a subscriber to the service, and believe the stock is probably cheap at these prices. Lots of new computer users, explosive growth of on line services and AOL is the fastest and friendliest of the services. In addition, it owns and operates its own network (POPS) giving it significant advantages over the other services, has one of the fastest growing ISP (GNN) providers nationwide, is generating increasingly significant revenue and profit from advertising and sales, has by far the most users and largest content of any provider. I personally find the web incredibly slow most of the day, but with AOL I can sign on, get an update on my entire portfolio, and sign off within 1 or 2 minutes.
AOL is now expanding aggressively overseas, will be bundled with Win95, is packaged with many new computers, and is clearly winning the war for subscribers.
I have been long the stock for over a year, and am now long LEAPS (Jan 45s) and am playing with getting some more short term options today in anticipation of major announcements (6 million sub and more) with earnings. I think the stock could easily go to 75 in the next few weeks ( and then split again). Check the history of the stock as you go up to earnings announcements - the shorts get out driving the price up.
