I haven't checked but wonder if the use of ETSI standards to bar cdma and US competitors would be considered an unfair trade practice or other violation of US trade law such that the US would bar European manufacturers from selling their products (GSM included) in the US? Ericy could then face being shut out of the US market. That might change the dynamics.
