ALL/Steve Macica: Noah Seidenberg has a converation with WSTL's CFO Steve Hawrysz yesterday. I'm re-posting his post from the WSTL thread.

Steve are you aware of any advances from AMTX/MOT to reduce the power usage from 8-Watts in the Overture-8? I tend to remember that the Line-driver uses X-watts and the MOT CG would use Y-watts. Are you familiar with what the X and Y values are and the possibilities for reduction?

"To All:

This is my first post so I hope it works. I too feel your pain with Westell as do many of my clients, but after talking to the CFO Steve Hawrysz today for about 10 mintues I feel a little better. First he said that Gary hoped to announce some contracts (GTE, BT, US West) in the analyst conference call when earnings are announced, although it appears these are moved back. He also mentioned that Bell Canada should be included in the group of companies with contracts to be announced soon. He also mentioned something I didn't quite understand (I must admit my knowledge is based on the investment side not the technology side), he said something about the next modem (I believe he meant the RADSL was going to go from engineering to production I think he said a week from Monday). In addition I asked about the mention on this forum of Nortel, Alcatel, and Fujitsu being the main companies in the running for the BT deal. I didn't understand how anything here other than Nortel benefitted WSTL. He mentioned that the relationship was more with BT than with the other vendors and that BT might insist on using WSTL even if the award goes to a company other than nortel. I got the feeling that he was fairly confident in this.

I also asked about the GTE trails and future contract, he said that only they and AMTX are in the trials now, and that the overature 8 from AMTX was not even close to being able to be used for mass deployment because of power using (again something about 8 Watts and it needs to be down to 4). Finally, he mentioned that in the US West scenario, they were also trying PAIR's HDSL, and he seemed to indicate that they would probably start there before moving into an ADSL solution.

Finally, regarding today's move, he said there were no announcements to trigger it, but thought it may have been in response to the pre-announcement of an earnings shortfall by TLTN today which smoked that stock.

All in all, he didn't give me any secrets, but was very honest and helped me feel a little better, and he again reiterated that all the fundamentals are still in place. Hope this helps,

Noah"
