DTN Adds Nasdaq Level II Stock Quotes to its Real-Time Service PR Newswire - December 02, 1998 09:17
OMAHA, Neb., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Data Transmission Network Corporation (DTN) announced the immediate availability of Nasdaq Level II stock quotes on its DTN RealTime service. DTN RealTime provides real-time quotes on over 230,000 stocks, stock options, commodities and indexes plus news, economic data and financial markets information. Nasdaq Level II gives DTN customers access to all real-time bid and asked quotes from each market maker in each stock listed on the Nasdaq National Market and Nasdaq Small Cap Market.
"Traders can use Level II to exploit very minor price differences between the bid price and the asked price among market makers," said Eric Stokes, Vice President of DTN Financial Services. "Experienced day traders can reap enormous profits and in doing so, help keep the market in equilibrium."
Level II information is for the professional or serious private investor. The streaming data tells the sophisticated investor who is driving the market in a given issue. The user can see which market maker is buying or selling stock and at what volumes. This creates a much more vivid and detailed picture of supply and demand for any equity issue. The trader may use this information to capture profits by using finer risk/reward calculations available from the detail contained in Nasdaq Level II.
Among other features on DTN's Nasdaq Level II service are breakthrough Dual Visual Distribution Bars (DVDB), depicting both price and volume proportions of that issue's bid and asked prices and time and sales data to keep track of every transaction in a given issue.
The trader may use a combination of these and other market data services available from DTN on a customized screen to display a variety of opportunities, for example, stocks, futures, indexes and options.
The system is available using the customer's PC, and DTN's user-friendly Chameleon software, plus a satellite dish and other hardware shipped to the customer by DTN. Since the DTN service is available by satellite, there are no Internet service provider charges or phone charges.
Prices for Nasdaq Level II are $50 per month, plus $50 for Nasdaq's exchange fee, in addition to the DTN RealTime subscription fee.
DTN RealTime also provides the customer with the features of Nasdaq Level I service, which include tick-by-tick real-time inside quotes (highest bid and lowest asked prices) for all Nasdaq National Market, Nasdaq SmallCapMarket and OTC Bulletin Board issues; real-time Nasdaq indices and end-of-day mutual fund prices.
In the near future, DTN will offer Nasdaq Level II quotes in conjunction with other software vendors and on DTN.IQ, its recently released Internet real-time market quotes system.
