If memory serves me, SME was given a 900 mil credit with GE Capital a while back for their turnaround plan. It is a last ditch effort, but it seems to be working extremely well.

Giveaways and "absurd" loss leader deals increased store traffic over Thanksgiving weekend dramatically. I feel the volume that has poured in today is in anticipation of some really good news for the first time in a long time.

They have closed non-performers and opened many new store models. They started a new smaller store with a full sized jewelry department and a small gift area with just their best selling gift items. We have not yet heard how these are doing. 1/10th the square footage.

REAL WORLD: Women browse. . .men buy
CYBER WORLD: Women buy. . . men browse

SME is a women's dream store for small appliances and jewelry. They have added home furnishings and furniture. Bridal registry very convenient for interstate relatives.

They are saving a fortune by not publishing those expensive catalogs. Instead they are sending circulars by the gazillions.

Anyone feel like digging up financial data?
