Because when this puppy does fly they don't want to be left short.

But hrm... I have always thought that what makes the price of a stock 'fly' (just like the price of anything) is a greater demand than supply. As long as someone (a MM or anyone) has millions of shares in 'inventory' to sell from wouldn't that keep the stock liquid, and stable at it's current price as long as demand stayed the same?

I've also been under the impression that the market maker is actually more focused at making money against a spread on trades than he is in speculation on taking out a multi million share long position in a penny stock... right?

respectfully,
cAPSLOCK
