Ericsson chief said today that they will not give up their boxy design philosophy. I really think they are behind the curve here - if Volvo can pull off a successful redesign and repositioning of the brand, I don't see why a high tech company should cling to past successes.

There is definitely something strange going on in the US market. CDMA has not seized the moment by any stretch of imagination. If both Nokia and Motorola double their market share there must be a serious resurgence of GSM and TDMA in the making - these companies were not doing much in the CDMA phone market during the first nine months of 1998. Moreover, Qualcomm's dismal market share plunge is a puzzler... this company has been talking about full capacity in the handset manufacturing for a year now. How do you operate at full capacity and halve your market share? While CDMA phone sales are supposed to be growing at over 100% rate? The numbers do not add up - if this isn't a management issue, I don't know what is.
