Here is some of the scoop on the nature of the agreements delSecur has negotiated thus far; They have the two major projects, one with Alacatel, Hitachi, France Telecom and GMCC. They have "consent letters" with Alcatel, French Telecom and Hitachi and a "memorandum of understanding" with GMCC. These "letters of intent" include joint funding of the pre-field and field trials and an agreement to negotiate in good faith for production on condition that field trials prove out the product. The field trials are going extremely well according to the company and independent authorities CRIM, James and others have "signed off" on their endorsements. The company expects to have production agreements in place within 3 months and be in production within 3-6 months. Obviously there is some slack in these projections but I would guess that they may have one or more agreements in place within two months. The parties have funded and are working toward the production. This funding looks small if you look just at deSecur - the more significant investment is being made internally by Alcatel, Hitachi GMCC and others.

delSecur is developing an ASIC chip that will integrate 29 separate components used in the early production units into a single IC. They are entertaining bids from semi companies to produce the ASIC but have not decided on which one to use for final production. I don't think that's very important except in how it will affect the pricing of production units. With this ASIC, virtually all circuitry with the exception of the LED's and CMOS diode arrays will become integrated in a small IC part and manufactured at low cost. Recent developments in CMOS imaging arrays also help to make this product concept more feasible - charge couple arrays are still relatively expensive and consume more power. It's important that overall cost reduction is possible in order for it to become attractive for mass market applications. The product should eventually be able to be gotten down to $100=150 if it reaches PC market quantities, IMO - not based on the what the company has made public about their projections.
