I didn't really consider why I missed the conference call, but I guess it was because I was voting too. The results were quite a relief given the pollsters' predictions. Fortunately, the Liberal member in my riding of Laporte was returned with a strong majority.

As for Discreet Logic, I think it may be for the best that the two companies didn't link up. Perhaps Autodesk can straighten DL out, but I think their current management is incompetent. They have messed up too many times.

Overall, I think MGI has the better prospects. The potential market in the consumer space is far greater than Discreet's high-end niche; that largely explains their $5 per share bid for MGI.

So far, DeCristofaro has done a remarkable job in positioning MGI at the low-end of the graphics/video market. They have undoubtedly been hurt by product transitions, but that is to be expected with any small company where a single product accounts for the bulk of its revenues.

I think the stock could still go higher in the near term on the right kind of news, e.g. an Editor's choice award, or perhaps a report indicating strong sales of their new products. The company would also make an attractive acquisition candidate. Remember that Intel was impressed enough to take a stake in the company. That is a strong endorsement of their technology. Just think what they could do with better distribution by a larger company.
