LHS And Germany's E-Plus Sign Long Term Agreement
ATLANTA/FRANKFURT--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 24, 1998--
LHS strengthens support for E-Plus's rapidly growing
subscriber base--two million subscribers predicted
by the end of this year
LHS (Nasdaq: LHSG)(Neuer Markt: LHI) and German mobile operator E-Plus today announced a long term agreement under which both companies will strengthen and enhance their relationship. E-Plus operates Germany's first GSM 1800 network.
Under the terms of the three year agreement, LHS will provide a comprehensive set of development, integration and maintenance services, including upgrade releases of its flagship billing and customer care software product Business Support and Control System (BSCS).
The multi-million US-Dollar agreement will amplify the companies' already close co-operation well beyond the year 2000, and pave the way to support E-Plus's rapidly expanding subscriber base.
"The co-operation with E-Plus, the innovative leader in the German mobile telecommunications market, is an important stage in LHS' development as we look toward the next millennium," said Wolfgang Kroh, LHS Senior Vice Europe, Africa and Middle East.
The LHS solution has been implemented at E-Plus since early 1998, where it serves to manage billing and customer care at E-Plus's service provider, E-Plus Service. E-Plus in total currently serves more than 1.7 million subscribers and expects to reach 2 million by the end of this year. The LHS solution BSCS provides E-Plus with the high scalability needed to accommodate rapid subscriber growth and offers the capability to easily introduce new and enhanced rate plans.
"Mobile subscribers today have become more discerning. This ranges from the quality of the network to innovative rate plans and easy-to-understand bills," said Dr. Horst Lennertz, Managing Director of E-Plus. "The LHS solution BSCS is mission critical for expanding our mobile subscriber base to approximately 2 million by the end of the year."
E Plus Mobilfunk GmbH operates a nationwide digital cellular mobile telephone network on the basis of the GSM 1800 standard in Germany. Three and a half years after the network launch, 98 percent of the German population were able to telephone with E-Plus. Today, E-Plus is the third biggest company in the market. E-Plus customers are able to telephone in more than 50 countries all over the world, by the end of 1998 there will be 75 countries. E-Plus sets standards in the mobile phone market regarding speech quality and netcapacity.
