I take it that the following passage describes Spice's market.:

If that is right, then the Spice chip is more a loop technology than a backbone technology. VTSS, to my way of thinking, is really a superfast SONET enabler. They are big in OC-192 and soon will be big in OC-768, and I would hazzard a guess that given the switch port density they announced on their last Q conference call, their IC's will be in the comming Lucent terabit swithes. What's the point?? VTSS largely works on the SONET backbone, and NOT taking the data droped off by SONET, and getting it to the curb. I'm sure there is some overlap, but my bet is on VTSS for SONET, not xDSL. |
