This confusing article seems to imply that Intel has patents on integrating graphics and core logic, which is think is incorrect. Intel has patents on the bus protocol of the PII chip, and I thought that is why Acer Labs, VIA, SiS are negotiating with Intel. SiS (and even S3) had integrated graphics plus core logic years ago, while Intel never has.

Of course, the PII bus licensing does indirectly affect graphics chip makers (Trident) that are licensing from core logic companies (VIA, Acer Labs). Maybe S3 is also doing something in this area (with Acer Labs?).
