Generally, I would agree with you about rising markets resulting in better financial performance. But in AWRE's case, I don't believe the numbers support that maxim. Most AWRE revenue this year came from licensing fees. These are up-front fees the company collects from each of its partners for technology. These fees go away over time as the royalty model takes over. The rumored royalty formula is $3 for each of the first 1 million units, and 50 cents for each unit thereafter. So the company may do $11-12 million this year and what, $13-18 million next if ADSL takes off? And $25 mil in 2000?

That's just not a $400 million company.
