I think we have all had horror stories, I am going through one right now, the strangest problem.
When cut & pasting into Word Perfect and Netscape (posting on SI) with no warning, I go to highlight text, ALL the text highlights. If I try and use the keyboard arrow keys, they don't work, they "BEEP". If I click on a hyperlink, a box pops up "save as." If I go to the desktop and right mouse click, I get a strange menu, not the normal menu when you right click on desktop.
This also happens in WordPerfect, PhotoShop 5, Netscape 4.5, and Hotdog5 HTML editor while running by themselves (no other program running or loaded). I have called Dell to see if anyone else may have complained about this, they said NO, he thought it was something to do with video drivers, but I re-installed them…..still fricks up.
I have deleted Hotdog, Iomega Drivers (Dr. Watson said these drivers were causing problems). This is the second re-build of my hard drive. Just recently deleted WP8…seemed to improve, as no problems yet, 2 days….all fine….so far.
As the problem keeps popping up it's ugly head, and I keep deleting software, soon I will have NO software on the computer.
BTW
When I deleted Hotdog and the Iomega Drivers, the problem seems to clear up a bit. Instead of cold re-booting 5-6 times a day, it's now 2-3 times.
I would suspect Microsoft drivers, DLL's somewhere are the cause of this, or maybe an OLE problem. All hardware tested fine. The system is 2 months old.
So much for using my favorite software. If you want a stable system, it looks like you have to use all of Billy's software.
I miss WordPerfect 8, even with the Service pack 5 installed, no improvment. |
