Noone has mentioned Steely Dan. But let's break it down so it makes sense and we're not comparing the incomparable: Best pure R and R band: Stones Best punk band: Clash Best pop band: Beatles Best vocal group: Temptations Best jazz group: Miles Davis in the Quintet days Best big band: Glenn Miller Best studio band: Steely Dan I invite comment on discussion, especially on the last choice. IMHO, Steely Dan is the most underrated band of all time. Their music sounds great now and shows no signs of being dated.
