Hah! That's where your wrong. Sure, cheap components like the drive casing can't be subdivided. But the expensive components (heads, media) can be. In fact, that is exactly what happened. ASPs have gone down dramatically because the number of heads and media per drive has gone down.

What, you think I just make this stuff up?
