Jon... We "shouldn't" be able to but... It might happen. Yesterday I had a long position which I had a stop market order on. I decided to unload it when market turned down and tried a sell without cancelling the stop order. I got a reply that I couldn't short on a down tick. Well, I didn't want to short only dump my long position. I never tried to see if I could get the short position to execute while I still had the stock..... John
