Hey Dave, how about everybody stops using my royalties to subsidize other areas of the business. Those royalties are for the bottom line, not to subsidize uncompetitive handsets, infrastructure or whatever. Sure, we can use the royalties to fund something which is in development, but they are NOT a way to discount handsets or anything else. The same as we used Omnitracs income to fund cdmaOne development, but it is time to get off their backs now and have cdmaOne earn their own living, much like a kid grows up and leaves home, leaving the old folks to enjoy the fruits of their investments.

If the handset people can't compete with Nokia, tell them to get another job elsewhere. You know, Finland is a little [in population] country stuck up next to Russia and in the dark of the arctic circle. Are we really saying the amazing, idealistic, world beating and generally god-like USA can't produce better handsets than Finland? And we need to subsidize the unartful Q! handset designers and manufacturers?

Q! is doing a great job on ASICs and the Nokians went away to lick their cdmaOne ASIC wounds. They might well hold that position and they should be able to do a great job on handsets too. Without subsidy.

As already pointed out, the avalanche away from analog is going to see rapid cdmaOne buildout over the top of analog systems on a one to one basis. No town planning mucking about, no land acquisition and all the drama. Just a fast buildout. That will mean money for Q! infrastructure division.
