GM says '99 Chevy Tracker prices below peers

DETROIT, Nov 19 (Reuters) - General Motors Corp.
said on Thursday that U.S. prices for the all-new 1999
Chevrolet Tracker will be below its Japanese competitors.
The world's largest automaker said it expects the Tracker
four-door model with a truck-based four-wheel-drive system to
be the best selling version at $16,295, including delivery
charges.
That will give it a price advantage of $2,800 and $1,900
over Honda Motor Co. Ltd.'s <7267.T> 1998 CR-V and Toyota Motor
Corp.'s <7203.T> 1999 RAV4 sport utilities, respectively, GM
said.
Chevrolet general manager John Middlebrook said in a
statement the new Tracker has a more muscular look, offering
more performance with an improved suspension, stronger engine
and more agility, and more room than the previous model.
Other '99 Tracker prices, including delivery charges, are:
-- four-door, four-wheel-drive model, $16,295.
-- four-door, two-wheel-drive model, $15,195.
-- two-door, four-wheel-drive convertible, $15,095.
-- two-door, two-wheel-drive convertible, $13,995.
