Hot off the wire....
I would think that with Mercana out of the picture, NHMC will be able to negotiate a more beneficial agreement than any through Mercana. Any one with other thoughts on this?
====================================================================== WINNIPEG, Manitoba--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 16, 1997--National Healthcare (VSE NHM, NASDAQ NHMCF) National Healthcare Manufacturing Corp. (NHMC) wishes to announce that it has retained the services of a consulting firm to assist the Company in obtaining ISO 9001 Certification for its medical device division which currently manufactures kits and trays for medical and surgical procedures. Already having received GMP approval, this certification will facilitate the immediate introduction of these products into the European Market. National Care Products (NCP) - a wholly owned subsidiary of NHMC - enjoys the benefits of ISO 9000 Certification as it is currently shipping its personal care products to Europe. Further to the press release of October 22, 1996, the Company has discontinued discussions with Mercana Industries of Richmond Hill, Ontario as a result of Mercana's inability to re-negotiate its exclusive contract with its Japanese suppliers. However, NHMC is actively pursuing discussions with the Japanese manufacturer and their representative to purchase the rights of the state of the art protective textiles which are used to manufacture reusable surgical gowns and drapes. All new developments will be announced as they occur. As a part of NHMC's initial agreement, NHMC advanced $225,000 to Mercana which was fully secured by Mercana. NHMC has made a demand for payment of this amount within 7 days which expires Friday, January 17, 1997. NHMC owns and operates the world's first and only automated robotic production facility capable of assembling and packaging various kits and trays for medical and surgical procedures. Use of this proprietary technology enables NHMC to produce these medical devices efficiently, cost effectively, quickly and accurately thus providing an edge over its competition who currently use manual labour. NHMC also through its wholly owned subsidiary NCP, manufactures and distributes NCP personal care products to healthcare institutions in North America and Europe.
