The search or magnetic monopoles have been going on for over 10 years already. The easiest technique is to use a SQUID (SUperconducting Quantum Inteference Device) made of Josephson Junctions to detect these monopoles. A few years ago one scientist claimed that he witnessed a magnetic monopole passed through his SQUID and recorded a jump in his instrument. The experiment was never replicated. However he did notice that the data was recorded on St. Patrick Day at the time when his wife came into the lab looking for him. Maxwell
