Just putting some sentences closer together......
Microsoft has announced long-range plans to use WebTV to deliver the
Windows CE operating system into the 60 percent of American homes with no PC........

WinCE, however, is not available on microSparc.

PowerTV officials are keeping mum about their ultimate
choice of a processor and other chips to go inside Scientific-Atlanta's next-generation
set-top.

If AViA@TV is based on microsparc then it won't be considered for any set top that goes with windowsCE? Is this right? Potentially a big market to miss? No chance for SFA windowsCE boxes?

Maybe this is why MSFT decided to work with silicon?

Anf then this really is interesting. This is the feature you want BillyG...........essentially allows a set-top to do
high-resolution fast-forward and rewind of the MPEG-2 MP@ML video
stream. Alternatively, it can simultaneously decode six MPEG-1 video streams
or two MPEG-2 video streams, according to Jim Baldwin, manager of
broadband client architecture at Microsoft's WebTV Networks.

Internet-connected
DVD settop
currently code-named WebDVD. InfoWorld reports, "Microsoft's plan calls for such a
device to be
priced at about $100 more than a standalone DVD player will cost at that time."

Some Q quickly arise

1. Is WebDVD the same as reg. DVD or is it some hybrid that allows interaction with the webtv content?

2.If it was potentially going to be ready for this x mas it should be ready for CES.

3. Where do these plans fit into Open Cables initiatives?ie is WebTV incompatible with open cable?

4. Any chance that CUBE could have a role in any of this?

It would seem that if CUBE wants to sell to everyone in the game
they would want to be sure that they had a product for everyone.
Thanks in advance for any help.
