Value of Business Intelligence Soars AtDelta Air Lines With Brio Enterprise December 1, 1998 02:59 PM PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 1, 1998--
Delta Chooses Web-based Brio Enterprise as Corporate Standard for Up to 2,000 Business Intelligence Users
Brio Technology, Inc. BRYO today announced that Delta Air Lines, the world's most flown airline, has chosen the Brio Enterprise suite of business intelligence products as its corporate standard for information access and analysis. Having completed rollout of several production systems, Delta anticipates bringing up to 2,000 business users online with Brio capabilities.
"With nearly five terabytes of capacity, our warehouse is very large," said Brent Lautenschlegar, director of Data Services for Delta Technology, Inc., Delta's wholly owned information technology subsidiary. "We need a business intelligence suite that is a good general-purpose tool, easy-to-use, accessible through a web browser, and allows for quick creation and maintenance of decision support applications."
Designed as an enterprise-wide analytical environment, Delta's data warehouse is built on an NCR Teradata database and is focused on analytical applications that deliver value to a number of different departments at the airline. Members of Delta's Pricing & Revenue Management group, for example, use Brio Enterprise to assess the impact of scheduling changes and analyze revenue generated on any of thousands of different routes. Business analysts in Delta's Consumer Marketing department use Brio Enterprise to analyze the effectiveness of frequent flyer programs, and can now use the data warehouse to correlate frequent flyer activity with revenue generation.
Known in the industry for innovative and savvy use of technology in its business operations, Delta took a close look at competing products before choosing Brio Enterprise. "In addition to feedback from employees who were familiar with Brio and other leading providers, we obtained information from analysts at the Gartner Group and META Group. Again, our major requirements were for ease-of-use on the business side, capability for full-function utilization through a web browser, and ease-of-development and maintenance for our IT staff," continued Lautenschlegar.
"Enabling our users to access corporate data over the web was crucial," added Lautenschlegar. "Brio's Web-based business intelligence products were easy for our business users to learn. What's more, Brio's Web products give us the same functionality as their client/server tools, completely eliminating our software distribution and upgrade problems -- helping conserve space and resources on our client machines."
