GDP Of 9 Asian Nations, Regions To Slip
0.3% In '98: Think Tank
OSAKA (Nikkei)-The real gross domestic product of nine Asian
countries and regions will likely shrink 0.3% year on year in 1998, the
first negative growth since the first survey in 1978, SRIC Corp. reported
Friday.

The negative forecast is mainly blamed on the currency and financial
crises that emerged in 1997.

Sanwa Bank (8320)'s research arm forecast the region will likely start to
emerge from negative growth in 1999, when GDP is expected to grow
by 2.6 %. However, it said a full recovery is unlikely.
