[power consumption and Spin Doctors]

Hi Bill,
I'm not going to be anymore specific than I was before when I said, the OV8 8Mbps/800kbps modem consumes less power than the Westell 1.5Mbps/64Kbps modem. The Amati CO system is convection cooled. Please note the performance of the ANSI Standard (Multi channel,Rate Adaptive etc.) Amati Modem vs the non-standard Westell modem (Flexcap and its anyone's guess what Flex stands for). Not exactly an apples to apples comparison. The cap RADSL chips with some new copy-cat features (rate adaptiveity, DMT has always had this) were due the end of last year. Now you tell me, after applying the latest Band-Aids (adding complexity) what will the power consumption be? Less? Why make these Vespa vs Porsche comparisons? Did the CFO state the data rate of new RADSL modem. Globspan advertises the parts as 6 or 7Mbps but from the Paradyne (now a Westell CAP competitor) press releases, they are reporting 2.56Mbps. This data rate doesn't qualify for GTE's Phase II. Wouldn't this be of a larger concern than some perceived power advantage? What will be the new story when Westell starts shipping the Amati/Mot DMT chips????? New Spin I guess.

Let the flames begin <g>
Later
Steve

PS Is Westell going to get stuck with a bunch of worthless CAP modems again once they get there hands on the Amait/Mot Copper gold chips??
