rudedog; My comments about the 2 hrs delivery were tongue in cheek. However, as I read the article I did have mixed feelings. On the one hand awe that they can even attempt this kind of fine tuning in a company so large operating in so many different cultures: on the other hand, concern that Murphy's law must assert itself with alarming frequency when one sets oneself such fine margins for error.
It appears to my inexperienced eyes that the exercise of a assessing with precision what the stock situation is, hour by hour, is difficult enough, even before the need to keep tabs on the stock of suppliers and control delivery times and co-ordination with production lines.

I suppose this forecasting programme relies on ERP software and did I read somewhere that they use SAP.
