Antoine,>>>To argue that we old fuddy duddy's don't understand the new valuation paradigm is a little ridiculous in a way <<<

First of all, I'm older than Mike and presumably older than almost anyone on this thread and I don't really understand the old paradigm much less the newer model.

But, my observation of the world is that things are much more competitive these days and things happen much quicker. Even in things like education - the conventional wisdom is that kids are not properly educated today - that the quality of education has diminished. Well, I just don't think so for the kids at the top of their classes. I doubt the fuddy duddy's can really touch the kids at the top of the elite schools of today.

Even in the work place - remember when you could turn in a report that was typed in a good format - and you were way ahead of the competition? Well, now these reports have to be in color with shading, graphs and illustrations as well as relevant data to support your point of view - if you are to have any credibility.

The same with investing. In the old days you could wait for Value Line to come out each week and than wait another 13 weeks for them to update the information. And, then you might even catch other investors napping.

I don't think this has to do with a new paradigm. It is the old paradigm - but things are happening in real time as opposed to slow motion.

If valuation in the old paradigm is a zero sum game - valutation is still a zero sum game in the new paradigm - except it is hapenning in real time - and we can't for Alan Abelson to summarize for us at the end of the week. And maybe somewhere there is an important difference.

Regards,

Mary

PS - I have no hidden agenda - just trying to sort things out for myself. I don't view changing my mind as any sort of capitulation - just a form of growing - and growing older.
