As a class, mortgage reits fit the bill of contrarian plays. This is especially true if the yield curve returns to a more historical pattern. My problem is that I have little confidence in how to read and interpret the financial reports of these companies to determine if their portfolios are true or bogus. The question for me is, will the company survive. Then a decent yielding mortgage REIT can fill the bill as the yield part of a portfolio. Any ideas? P.S If posters provided specific contrarian plays, I believe this thread would rejuvenate.
