Pegasus XL rocket successfully launches NASA spacecraft
Update for Saturday, Dec. 5 at 8:12 p.m. EST
NASA's Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite arrived in space today after a ride aboard an Orbital Sciences air-launched Pegasus XL rocket, the space agency said. The booster was released from its carrier jet at 7:57 p.m. EST (0057 GMT) today. Spacecraft separation took place about 11 1/2 minutes into flight.

The L-1011 departed Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., at 6:58 p.m. EST headed for the drop box about 100 miles off the coast of central California.
