Perhaps they will get fewer IPO
opportunities if their client base sells early, so by holding a hard line they enable all of us
to have more opportunities.
Actually they have to pay big penalties for flipped shares, that's why they discourage the practice so strongly. It's money out of their pockets.
The underwriters penalize them of course because they are trying to create as stable a price environment as they can so as to create interest from the Funds. Funds are not as likely to be buyers in a crazy stock thats bouncing around every day.
